OTTAWA - January 11, 2012 - Perley-Robertson, Hill & McDougall LLP/s.r.l. is pleased to announce that Barry Leon has been named new Head of the firm’s International Arbitration Group, effective today. Barry continues to lead the firm's top-ranked Canadian-based International Arbitration Group, while founder and previous Group Head Andrew de Lotbinière McDougall becomes Special Counsel to the firm. Andrew will be relocating to Paris in 2012 as an International Arbitration Partner with leading international firm White & Case LLP, giving Perley-Robertson, Hill & McDougall a valuable presence in Europe.
Barry Leon is Chair of ICC Canada and is described as “one of the finest counsel in Canada” and a “class act” (Who’s Who Legal, October 2011). He has been an integral part of the Group’s success since he joined shortly after its establishment, and the Group is ranked among the top international arbitration practices in the world in Global Arbitration Review’s GAR 100. Barry has more than 30 years of experience as counsel and also serves frequently as an arbitrator and mediator. He will continue to lead the Group's growth and development, focusing both on Canadian clients and clients in other parts of the world.

Alongside Barry and Andrew, the International Arbitration Group continues to have further depth and a strong Canadian and international presence with Partner and member of the firm’s Management Committee, R. Aaron Rubinoff. With over 20 years of experience, Aaron is one of the leading counsel in Canada’s National Capital Region and has acted as counsel in a significant number of arbitrations, both international and domestic. He has become increasingly known and active in international arbitration and will be assuming a larger role in the Group.
Firm Chairman and Founding Partner, Thomas A. McDougall, Q.C., is a key Partner and the fourth senior member in the Group. He has acted as counsel in many complex and significant commercial arbitrations, both international and domestic, and in court litigation, encompassing a wide range of industries.
Two full-time international arbitration associates and the firm's other disputes associates are also part of the Group.
